Email "stuck" in Outbox

Outlook 2003

Everything has been working okay. Email I have tried to send after about
noon today is stuck in my outbox. I have no error messages. When looking in
my outbox they are there in Bold/Italics if that means anything. Urgent
help needed please.
 
Did you press Send and Receive or F9 to see if they'd go? what type of email
acct is in your profile?
 
I've tried the send/receive button and it says send & receive were
completed. I tried sending myself a message from Windows mail and Outlook
received it fine (which indicates there is no problem with my server - Cox
Cable). I'm not sure what you mean by profile but this is a POP3 home email
account.

go to tools, send and receive, send and receive settings, show progress -
does that dialog give you any clues?

BTW - did this problem just start and if so, have you tried rebooting?
 
Don't ask me how or why but I closed Outlook and reopened it and now it
appears to be working normally.

it was either a mapi hang (often caused by checking too often) or a recent
update caused problems and outlook needed restarted to utilize the update.
