I have a new home computer with Vista Preimum home edition.

It seems to have a new email program. I just do not know if it is
'complete'. From the forums suggestions I im[ported the .DBX files of
outlook express. I now have all my existing email folders showing.

My problem is trying to set up the email so that when I click on the desktop
email shortcut it will connect to my verizon email account and automatically
begin downloading just like outlook express. I contacted verizon and all
they keep doing is sending me stuff about Win2000,98se etc. It is like they
never heard of Vista.

So, how do I find the parameters in my old outlook (still in my old
computer) to make the Vista email program work for me? The, where do I locate
the place to enter these parameters in Vista?

Thank you.

Hi, Jay.

This is probably not the best newsgroup (also known as a discussion group or
Community) for your email problem.

Every copy of Vista includes Windows Mail, which is a rewrite of the
venerable Outlook Express. If you have Vista, you have WM.

But there is an even newer rewrite, Windows Live Mail, which Microsoft
released just last November. I prefer WLM and so do most of the users that
I know. If you would like to try it, download it for free at:
Windows Live Mail
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

WLM and WM can run side by side, since each maintains its own Message Store.
As you may know, OE stores its messages in .dbx folders; 1,000 emails from
your Mom might be in the Mom.dbx folder. WM and WLM store each message as a
separate .eml file, so you would have 1,000 separate files. Corruption in a
single message might cause you to lose all 1,000 messages in OE, but only
the single email in WM/WLM.

The peer-to-peer newsgroups supporting these new email/news programs are:
For Windows Mail:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

For Windows Live Mail (ignore the word "desktop"; it was dropped from the
program name long ago):
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Users in one of those groups can give you more-specific email help than in
this installation.setup group.

R.C.,

I apprecieate the reply. However the links you provide:
'microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail' just do not work. The closest I came
was the archive for this link.

In ant event I have a better ubderstanding from your letter.

Thank you.

Hi, Jaye.

Sorry. I just gave you the newsgroup names, since you are using the
web-based interface. I usually give the full URL so that a simple click
will fire up your default newsreader, if it is not already running, and take
you to the NG. Try one or both of these:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
