I see software advertising, which states that - "Anyone can read you email.
When you send an outgoing email, it is like sending a post-card, it is open
to the world."

(1) Is above true?
(2) Can anyone who knows your email address, read your email?

No, they would also need the password for your e-mail account. Probably what they're referring to is the actual data that is sent to your e-mail provider is generally not encrypted. If someone could tap your phone line, or intercept the data stream by some other means, could technically recover the data that you're sending and read it.
