After the last Windows Updates ( Windows Vista Business 32 ), KB905866, my
email rules are not being applied.
I have a rule which tells Windows Mail not to get some emails and stop to
process more rules, it is the last one in the rules list.

I would like to know if it is any bug introduced in the last update.
My rules used to work until last Monday ( Jan, 11 2010 )

Thanks a lot.

It is very doubtful that the update would affect one rule, if any?

Maybe the criteria of the mail in question changed, new email address etc?

Such a rule should be at the top of the list, not at the bottom.

No one else has reported a recent problem with rules.
If you want, post your rule here so we can see if it has a
potential problem.

I have 19 named rules:
The first one is : If from contains [email-list] move to trash folder and do
not process more rules;
The second to 18th are of the same type : If from contains [email-list] move
to [folder] and do not process more rules;
The last one is: For all messages do not download from server and do not
process more rules.

This structure is responsible for placing messages in their proper folder.
This is working fine.
Only the last rule is not working any more. That was the way I found to
avoid receiving unwanted messages .

I would like to have a way of not receive messages from unknown people. It
has worked until last december at least.

Thank you for answering.

I have exchanged the position of the 19th rule. It works on every position
but not in the last. Exactly the one it should be : after all other rules has
been applied.

Like Bruce says, the 'don't download' rule apparently needs to be first.
Since that will mess up the logic of your exclusion criteria, you will have
to figure out another way to do a similar thing.

Imagine putting a rule not to download "all messages" in the first position !
I will not receive any message any more ! At least I am understanding the

I have just put the #19 rule on the second position. All the rules after it
were ignered, because the rules of the type "if from contains <email> move to
<folder>" are executed after the message has been downloaded. As the rule
"not download" is executed first, no one else is executed after that.

So if this question will not be considered in the next set of Windows Mail
updates my rules schema will loose its main function wich is block unwanted
and advertising messages. I will find a way of turning arround this problem.

Thanks for you all for answering my messages.

You need to "filter in" your mail.

Start with the Address Book only rule and as you get messages you want
from people not in your Address Book, (E-mail from businesses, bills, your
ISP, etc.), you can add them to the rule.

Tools | Message Rules | Mail | New.

Box 1 - Where the From line contains people {check it}

Box 2 - Check: Delete it & Stop processing more rules if you want messages
not in the Address Book to go to Deleted Items, or you can create a Junk
folder and direct them there.

You can choose Delete it from server, but be careful as you will never
have any messages downloaded to any folder if you choose this option.

Box 3 - Click on the blue words Contains People

Click on the first address to highlight it. Scroll down to the end and
hold down the Shift key while you click on the last address. This will
highlight them all. Right click on them and click on From in the menu that
appears.

Now click Options and Choose: Message *does not contain* the people below
in the top Options box, and choose: Message matches any one of the people
below in the bottom Options box.

OK your way out of the new rule.

Now, only addresses you entered will be downloaded to your Inbox. You will
not see any other e-mail.

Don't forget, if you add someone to your Address Book, you will have to
add them to the rule. It will not be added automatically.

Be sure to see these links for more options.

Why not just remove the last rule, "For all messages . . . .", and let them
download. Since everything else got put where you want it, then what's left
in the Inbox would presumably be junk. You can highlight all of it and
delete it.

I'd reather not to spend time with messages I do not want to get them in my
Windows Mail folders.

I have placed the "Not Download" rule just before the last rule, which is a
fake
one that moves no message to the trash folder. This option let the "Not
Donload" rule working properly.

Although I think Microsoft should restore the way that rule use to work
before I am satisfied with my solution. For me it's solved.

Thanks for you all.

You may need to move the rule. The following applies to WinMail as well as
OE.

In general:

Have all rules that Delete it from server first.

Rules that divert mail to folders next.

All others last.

Make sure that every rule also has Stop processing more rules checked,
