i have received a email which says, message could not be displayed.
However, i cannot delete or move this at all! Nortons too had no success.
Any ideas on how i can get rid of it? thanks

I just had that happen to me. The only way I could delete it was to delete
all the other messages that were under it. Not sure why that happened, but
once all the other messages were deleted I could delete that one too. That
one message was also preventing me from deleting all of my messages at once.

nortons removed and all the instructions followed, but that one pesky email
refuses all means to remove it

Removal of Norton antivirus should prevent future problems, but
it doesn't cure an existing stuck message. Which folder is the
stuck message in, Inbox, Outbox?

I trust you replaced Norton with a more compatible antivirus,
such as the free Avast.

Messages stuck in a folder other than the Outbox can not be removed
without a somewhat risky 'blowing away' of the database.
I recommend just marking the message 'read' and ignoring it for now.

"Just ignoring" a message which is in the inbox or anyplace else is NOT a
solution. I have created folders, i.e., Family, Memberships, Virus info,
Travel data, etc., into which I have always in the past, with Workhorse XP an
OE, moved them to, with no problem. It's inexcusable to me for the New Vista
with Windows Mail to be so useless. Also, it's totally ridiculous for Vista
to have been made "incompatible" with major virus systems such as McAfee and
Norton. Microsoft Windows tries to override everything which used to work.
Somebody NEEDS to get a "fix" on these problems.....some which I see are
still being asked after MONTHS. Where are the Microsoft Technology people.

You can bet money on the fact that there will be hundreds or thousands of
unhappy people going to MacIntosh before long if these issues are't corrected.

A very unhappy "forced Vista" user.

Don't attack the messenger! Call up Microsoft and yell at them.

I can't help it that Microsoft has released a buggy mail program,
and so far has not released any corrective patches.
If you want to take the path of least resistance, ignoring a stuck
message in the inbox is the way to go. Perhaps that will tide you over
until such time when Microsoft does release the patches.

If you want to be pro-active, upgrade to the Windows Live Mail beta:

"Forced?" We can't have that...
You're going to have to learn
to take more care of yourself.

Try Judo, or some such.

Its unfortunate that MS can't fix its mess in a timely fashion, but don't
blame MS for antivirus software not being compatible. Its the problem of
those who write such invasive software, and they should fix it.

Almost no AV software works with OE or WinMail if you have it set to scan
email. see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

My new Toshiba laptop came with both Vista and McAfee (trial) installed. The
McAfee trial will expire in 6 days and I was about to re-up. However,
reading your posts I'm convinced not to. Shall I try Avast? Is it as
effective and is it compatible w/ Vista?

However--this complication: my ISP (Comcast) has McAfee installed "free" so
I suppose their version is running no matter what else I get?

For years I used the G-Locksoft program to pre-scan incoming mail (before it
was downloaded from the server) in my old Win XP Pro and OE. Do you know if
that is compatible w/ Vista?

I'd really appreciate your advice.
