email recognition problem

When ever a website asks for an email address I receive a "need a valid email address: error message after typing in my email address. This is regardless of
what email address I type in. Is there a setting that needs to be changed. I have tried clearing my cache and cookies with no success. Ideas?
 
Have you contacted your email provider about this? Are you using the correct
extension (i.e. .net, .com, .org, etc.)? It would help to know a little more
about your problem. What version of Windows are you using? What email
provider(s) do you have? Is Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express set as your
default email account? When was the last time you logged onto that account?
Some accounts expire if not used after a certain period. Is the email account
part of the ISP that you no longer have? So ISPs delete your account once you
discontinue service with them (i.e. AOL, Wal-Mart, Juno, NetZero). If this
