email problem - attachment received as inline text

We have email problems with several of our clients and customers.

To these customers, every time when we email out (using Outlook) with
attachments, such as .doc and .pdf and .jpg files. These email was received
with one large garble inline text message, but no attachment, by these
customers.

However, if we send out same email by web based email, such as yahoo, the
attachments are received OK by the same customers.

Can you tell me what is the problem we are dealing with?

When using OL to send to users of Outlook Express, always use Plain Text
format, especially if there's an attachment. OE simply does not
"understand" OL's RichText or HTML formatting.

Do you have Outlook set to insert text attachments into the body of the e-
mail ?

(Lame if you ask me....an attachment is an attachment....period. If I
wanted it in the body, I would have cut & pasted it there.)

If the mail was sent from Outlook using Outlook's RTF format then Outlook
Express will never find the attachment. Outlook Express does not understand
Outlook's RTF format. Ask the Outlook user to please use Plain Text,
especially when sending attachments.

No, Just in Outlook, simple attachment files of .doc or .jpg or .pdf files.
Did not ask to insert text into the body of the email. (Yes, we are extra
careful to do that).

Not using Outlook Expree. Only use Outlook.

The mail was either plain text or html, set by Outlook 2003.

Again, not using Outlook Express.

It does not matter what *you* are using, it matters what *your
customer/clients* are using. *You* should try sending with Outlook
configured to send "Plain Text" only, and see if your customers/clients
still report problems, or stop reporting problems.

It may be going through an Exchange Server which is changing it to RTF
(ms-tnef).

OK, the one major customer is still always have this same problem with our
email with attachment is using Gmail by Google. This customer is using web
based Gmail browser to receive our email.
