Email Port Problems

Jonathan S.

Hello,

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I have a system on my LAN that intermittently errs out while trying to
receive or send email messages. The system is a Win2K SP4 machine. It
has network connectivity, and can connect to the internet just fine.

Every so often, the system stops allowing traffic to any server over
ports 25 or 110. I confirmed this by using telnet to check connectivity
with local machines, my router, and to external servers. Other machines
on my LAN connect via telnet just fine.

The problem is intermittent - I cannot find a pattern - but persistent,
and rather annoying. Rebooting the machine always solves the problem for
a while.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Jonathan

The event log shows no events for days other than "this service has
started" etc that usually appears upon machine boot. There's nothing
that would indicate any kind of network failure, hiccup, or driver
problem with the NiC.

Thanks!

I guess my earlier post kinda got buried underneath 500 new threads, so
I'll respond again:
