email messages have gone from inbox

Email messages Inbox and Sent have disappeared. Outlook 2007 has only
recently been setup and VIEW is set to messages
Messages disappeared since yesterday which was the first setup for email Steve
 
Did you perhaps enabled AutoArchive? Then they are in your archive folder;
Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button AutoArchive...

If yesterday was the "first setup for email", how could you have had messages
in the Inbox and Sent Items already?
