I have the same problem and I have read this article.
Rather than disable the feature, is there a way to FIX the
feature, or get it back on track so it is accurate?

Thanks

Hi,

The addresses are listed here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your E-Mail Address]

To remove an account or to change the count manually Got to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count
