when I receive some messages the text has lots of symbols embedded in it and
the graphics come in as text. I was told by gateway help my HTML in outlook
express is not functioning properly, but they could not help. HELP!!!

From the OE menu bar: Tools> Options> Read. If "read all messages in plain
text" is selected, an html message will show the message text *and* all
underlying html code as text. To view the message in html format,
uncheck that box in Tools> Options.

There is some security risk involved with this setting. It can be minimized
by placing OE into the "Restricted Zone" under Tools> Options> Security. It
can be avoided by using plain text like you're using now but then you're
back to picking out the message text from the displayed HTML code. it's
your call on what setting is best for you and your system.
