We have received an email from Microsoft about a security
bulletin (MS03-026). Is this for real or are we being
tricked into something? Something smells fishy about this
can you help?

As long as the e-mail did not actually contain a patch of any sort it may be
genuine - if you signed up to receive security bulletins.
If it has any patch or executables attached then it is a virus.

For more information on MS03-026 see
http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp

For general comments on any e-mail that claims to be from Microsoft but has
an attachment see
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/news/patch_hoax.asp
and

and
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/policy/swdist.asp

Microsoft never distributes software directly via e-mail.
