I have received the same email message 6 or 7 times in the
last week. It is supposedly from (e-mail address removed)
with the subject "Use this patch immediately!" The text
of the message is "Dear friend , use this Internet
Explorer patch now! There are dangerous virus in the
Internet now! More than 500.000 already infected!" The
message has two attachments: "patch.exe" and "unknown-0
B" I have not opened either attachment for fear that it
is a virus. I vaguely remember reading something from
Microsoft a while back about this type of thing and how
they do not email patches directly. However, I have been
unable to find anything about this on the Microsoft,
Symantec or McAfee websites. If this is indeed a virus,
it seems like one a lot of unsuspecting people would
inadvertently open. I wanted to try to find the original
warning from Microsoft so I could spread the word since I
have gotten the message so frequently lately. Can anybody
help?

It is NOT from MS. MS does not send you files, EVER! It is a worm and will
mess up your machine real bad if you open the attasched file.
Warn everyone!

Those guys should be shot using Microsoft trademark logos
and deceiving everyone...If you look at the "from" email
address, it is usually from any Tom Dick or Harry. They
just make life more difficult for all of us.

Dear all

A good start is to read this which explains you how to learn if an Email is
genuinely from MS or not:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/antivirus/authenticate_mail.asp

You get those email, because some spam bot found your address somewhere, for
example here, so it's a good thing to be very careful with your Email
Address and not to post it in Newsgroups. If you need to post it in
newsgroups. please use it and add NOSPAM to it, for example (e-mail address removed)
becomes in that case (e-mail address removed). Thus, people will still be able to
contact you in case they need.

If you are tired of those email, trace the IP and inform the respective ISP
that it can take action in order to stop the virus from propagating.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
