email downloads keep repeating

Recently every time I startup MS Office Outlook 2003 the same emails
download. I need to know why this action started and how to stop it. I am
on a dialup connection which is extremely slow and don't wish to waste my
time as the same 10 or so keep appearing. New emails don't download until
the repeating ones finish downloading.

How long is the mail poll interval configured in Outlook? Set to 10
minutes, or longer.

Do you have anti-virus software scanning your e-mails? If so, disable that
superfluous scanning.
