When I am in my Inbox folder, the gray bar at the bottom of the screen shows 250ish emails, but all I see as listed emails in my Inbox is the last several emails that arrived; no where no near 250. I don't think I'm using the preview pane, if that matters.

Occasionally, Outlook asks me if I want to "archive emails" which I always say "no" to. I don't know what archiving does.

thanks for any help.

RIght click on the toolbar and select Customize, then add the advanced
toolbar. Using the view dropdown, ensure you have it set to all messages.
