I want to type in the first letter of a contact and have the name
automatically located and inserted into the To: line, from my contact list.
Currently I have to double click the To: and search for the name from the
list.

What version of Outlook are you using?

Outlook 2003

Click Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options. Check the box
labeled "Suggest names when completing To, Cc, and Bcc fields". Then, as
you send messages, Outlook will remember the addresses you use and remember
them, popping them up as you begin to type them again.
