spider ...

I've checked 3 different HotMail accounts
+ 2 Regular ISP eMail accounts using Outlook Express
multiple times daily for about 4 years ...

However, I'm only a single machine user
and not on a LAN ...

Perhaps there is something strange in your LAN config
that may be causing problems ...

I'm LAN-challenged so I can't help with that ...

I use mailmoa.

It has multiple accounts, is very small, gives a preview of the message
just by hovering the mouse over the message and doesn't take the mail from
the account. You can also send an email with this prog.

Try eprompter

http://www.eprompter.com/

<ePrompter automatically and simultaneously checks and retrieves your
email messages from up to sixteen password protected email accounts
such as AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo, Earthlink, Email.com, iName, Juno,
Mail.com, Mindspring, MSN, Netscape, POP3, OneBox, Rediffmail, SBC
Yahoo, Switchboard, USA.net and hundreds of other email domainsThe
number of new messages in each individual email account can be easily
seen on the main ePrompter screen. And with a simple click on the
account of your choice, you can read, delete or respond to any of your
messages.

ePrompter gives you the ability to delete unwanted spam or suspicious
looking mail - the kind that might contain viruses - without having to
launch your email program or go to your web mail's site.

ePrompter notification features include a unique rotating tray icon,
audio alerts for new messages, and a choice of five unique
screensavers that let you know at a glance the number of new messages
in each account, which you can easily read and/or delete with the
click of an icon.

ePrompter also lets you compose and send original messages, as well as
forward or reply to your retrieved messages, again without having to
launch your email program. ePrompter also features an address book.

ePrompter is so easy to set up and use, you'll have it up and running
in minutes.>

Yep

This might be *the* mail client I have been waiting for.

Sod Becky! and The Bat! :-)

Confused. eprompter used to be just a mail checker and subject to the woes
visited upon them when hotmail or yahoo got uppity and changed the code. ;)
I quit using it (on win98 at least) because some of the counts would be off,
some wouldn't change after you retrieved the mail and other problems. I went
with Mailwasher, which I love. But, But, But it's not an email prog like The
Bat or Becky, well not really, though I used to be able to reply from it.
Anyway, I tried The Bat and Becky and am now with Poco (also not free), but
better and cheaper than the above 2. ;)

Well, I wouldn't call it an email client.

Well, it's 24 hours on and I still love it. Obviously it is not Becky!
but it will do most of what I need in a mail client, which is delete
spam and reply to my mum.

And read and reply to AOL mails. :-) (Even tho' I don't)

A non AOLuser cannot possibly understand how good it feels to have
found a prog that does this and therefore relegates AOL to dial up
functionality alone. Hey: I even use The Wonderful Icon to hide the
AOL dial up software after connection.

OK, I am not on my AOL narrowband puter atm, but the excitement
remains...

What are you using for an NNTP client?
