Email checker (to ISP server) compatible with broadband?

I have cable internet now and need a checker that will work with it.
The one I was using was for dialup only (an old one, but it did a
_great_ job).

I would expect that your existing one would still work.

Look for an option that says "always connected" or "internet thru lan".

The one that I had was very old. It was unique, too, as it would dial
up _then_ go do its checking. I never figured out how to get around
that. I may hunt up the CD it's on and re-install, but want something
better than that one. Also, it would be great if it could check
webmail (I didn't mention that, though, did I ... should have),
something that the old one definitely did not do.

Try MagicMailMonitor. It'll work with an established connection --
that's how I *always* used it.

I evaluated about two dozen, before settling on this one. My criteria
turned out to be tough. The hardest was that it had to report the mail
list in one window, not a bunch of individual ones, one to a mailbox,
that all had to be dealt with separately; and had to have a column
showing which box each piece of mail was in.
