I tried to open an attachment to an email, and this message appeared...Upper
left corner...Red circle with White X.."this file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the
Folder Options Control".

What do I do now to open the attachment.

Thanks..

What kind of file is it? .doc, .xls, etc

Tom:

If has a Box, with a Blue Band at the top, and a Green and Red Dot in the
center, and Salesresume.RSM (13.7KB)

That is all I can find..I know it's not much to work with.

Hi Peter:

You can tell I am a novice when it comes to computers...I received an email
from my daughter with her husbands resume attached. That is what I can't
open to read. I think they bought the software in Little Rock at Best Buy or
something like that. I was hoping to get a step by step instruction from
this discussion group.

Thanks for your reply.

They could use PrimoPDF to create a pdf document which you could then read
in Adobe Reader.. a link for PrimoPDF.. http://www.primopdf.com/

Send it to them and get them to convert the document using the program
downloadable from that website.. it is easy to do and free to use..

Right now your Windows is basically saying "Howard, I don't recognize
this file. What program do you want to use to open it?"

You need to ask your daughter in what program her husband created the
file. When you create a file in a program, that program saves the data
in its own format. You then need the same program installed on your
computer - or another program that understands the format - in order to
be able to open the file. For instance, if her husband used Microsoft
Word, he would save it in Word's default format (.doc). Then you would
need Word, a Word viewer, or another word processing program that can
deal with .doc files installed on your machine. If your son-in-law
created his resume in a program that only saves in a proprietary format
(one unique to that program), it isn't going to do him any good when he
sends it to prospective employers because they won't be able to open it
either!

Hope that clarified things a bit. If you need more help, please do post
back.

I want to thank all of you who replied. You have been a big help and I now
understand the problem, and have shared this info with my Daughter.

This Discussion Group is a great service to everyone using a computer.
Again Many Thanks to all.

Ask your daughter what program she used to create it. If you have the same
program, or a compatible one, you can open it. If you don't, you can't.

It's as if the document is in Chinese. If you can read Chinese, you can open
and read the resume. If you can't read Chinese, the contents of the document
will be meaningless to you.
