Email address exists but not in Contacts or Address Book

Outlook 2003
When I start to type a name in the TO field of a new email, the look up
feature produces the correct email addresses and an old email addresses.
Using Find, I can not locate the contact containing the old address. In
Address Book searching for the address also does not contain the old
address. I would like to get rid of the old address so I do not send mail
to it. Any suggestions?

select it using the arrow key and hit Delete. This is the autocomplete cache
and is separate from the address book or contacts folder.
