I email content pieces out to various clients and the
text often contains em dashes. It looks fine when viewing
with Internet Explorer, but shortens the em dashes to
regular dashes when emailing the page. Is there anyway
around this?

"Content pieces?" You mean web pages? If so, how is the em dash specified in
the HTML? Entering an em dash with Alt+151 gives an 8-bit character with
Windows-specific character mapping. Better to use the HTML numeric entity
for em dash: — Also, do the persons you send to have the fonts you are
using? Perhaps their default font doesn't have an em dash character.

It's possible there are still some mail servers won't accept 8-bit data. At
that point your Windows em dash could be converted to a hyphen.

Neither of those work when you email the page as HTML.
Outlook shortens it to a dash as I said in my original
post.

Incorrect. When *I* send an HTML email with an em dash, the em dash is not
changed to a hyphen. OL 2000.
