Eliminating/Editing addresses

When I'm addressing an email and I begin to type in an address, after I type in the first three characters, a list will pop up of names/addresses that I have formerly used. Some of these are incorrect, andi would like to eliminate them from the list. Where is this list stored? How can I edit it? Can I save it for future reference

Thank you for any help. this is driving me crazy!!!!!!!
 
Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:
