I ran into some difficulties w/ XP and had to install a
second version of XP on a partitioned section of the hard
drive. How do I get back to a single version of XP while
eliminating the partition?

Which version do you want to get rid of, the original, or the new one ?
You have to be careful, the files boot.ini ntldr and ntdetect.com may be on
the original partition.

When you installed the second version, did you get a dual boot system, with
a boot menu, or did it just boot the new version ?
Run disk manager.

start/run
diskmgmt.msc

Which partition is flagged as system, and which as boot.

I take it you only have one physical disk, if not describe what partitions
are on what disks

i had the same problem and i fixed most of it with
partition magic 7.0. however i still am having a problem
with my initial boot file and getting it to read and start
from only one instance of xp, i am basically just using one
instance to boot and the other to operate. if you get any
other ideas or reponses please let me know also
thanks, ray
