eliminating contact duplications

more than once sync has made multiple entries of contacts
in particular categories. It takes forever to manually
review and delete. Is ther an more automatic way?
 
there is a long list of utilities to remove duplicates at slipstick.com - or
sort by modified date and remove the ones added by the sync
