This version of IE will automatically set itself to 'proxy' instead of
'direct connection to the internet'.
How do I get the default of 'direct connection to the internet'?

Hi unctom :-)

I'm not sure, but, if you don't have dialup, you might try the following and
see if it helps:

Tools>Internet Options>Connection>Lan settings
Under Proxy server> Uncheck the "Use a proxy server for your LAN (these
settings will not apply to dialup or VPN connections).
Then Close out of IE and see if it helped.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

I've tried "everything" short of a full format. Has anybody tried to delete Win XP and re-install to fix this problem?
