I reply to email inquiries for our business division, the
Boy Scout Troop we help sponsor, and all corporate
inquiries.

Before we switched to XP and the full-blown Outlook we
use Outlook Express. When we used Outlook Express the
from line showed the appropriate return address of the
account used to send it.

Now in OUTLOOK it shows all replys from my personal email
account with the notation "On Behalf Of" and the
appropriate account.

How can I eliminate my personal email from the "from"
line and just get the appropriate return email address
for each account to show up like it used to in Express?

I would appreciate any help.

Thank You

Dan Webber

Usually the From line isn't used to choose the sending account in
Outlook; it's mainly used with an Exchange server when one user has
delegate access to another user's mailbox.

When you mention XP, are you talking about Windows XP, or Outlook XP
(actually called Outlook 2002 even though it's part of the Office XP
suite), or both? Different versions have different methods of choosing
the sending account.

We're using Outlook 2002 of XP Office Professional and XP
Professional as the OS.

I don't even know what an Exchange server is, but I am
willing to learn if that is what it will take to get rid
of the "On Behalf of" message.

Thank you

Exchange is a server-based post office system designed for businesses.
It's not cheap, but in your situation, an Exchange server would be
overkill to say the least...so you don't need to worry about it :-)

In Outlook 2002, if you have separate e-mail accounts set up under one
mail profile, you should be able to change the sending account "on the
fly" by clicking the Accounts button on the toolbar in the message
window. You will see a list of the available accounts, with the default
account at the top. Just click the one you want to use to send that
message and you will see a yellow banner above the To box that says
"This message will be sent via <account name>". That's all you have to
do. You might want to hide that "From" box so you won't use it by
mistake -- click View | From Field to hide it.

One other thing you should know about having multiple accounts in one
profile is that Outlook will automatically use the default account to
send new messages, but if you receive a message through a different
account (let's call it Account B) and try to reply to it or forward it,
Outlook will try to use Account B to send the reply or forward as well.
You can always change the sending account manually, though, so all you
have to do is make sure you know which account Outlook is going to use
before you press the Send button, so you don't use the wrong account by
mistake.
