Electronic help

depends ... who do you want electrocuting ?

:)

I'm after some components for a graphics card which are proving quite hard to source unless I buy a quantity of 1000 or more

So only thing I can think of is buying the next item up which is of a higher current

ie i need

Inductor Sheilded 0.1uH @ 35amps

can only find in comparison

0.1uH @ 42amps (DC current rating on this is at 32.5amps)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261089419783?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

However many years out of practice i'm not sure if tolerances and a few other things are equal too or suitable for my needs. From the looks of it the current rating and uH factors are fine but there maybe other factors i'm missing

To add there is also the question of Ferrite and Ferrite powder. Does it make a difference?

nope, it been 35 years since I did any component work ... FBS may be of better help.

good luck. :)

Should be ok TXD, higher current rating is always desirable, better higher than lower.

Ferrite beads and ferrite powder core rings are commonly attached round cable to suppress RF but they both do the same thing so that shouldn't be an issue.

So they're surface mount then? You can't use the ones with legs that look like a resistor?

They need to be SMD mate to fit under a heatsink on a graphics card

I think the card was over clocked and two of the Inductors were damaged

Hense my question about the other variables, I wasn't sure if it would cause undesired effects etc

what do you think?

In my experience all that matters is value is correct (1uH) and component can handle current (covered). An inductor doesn't actually do much, just makes everything steadier than it already is.

The end result, of course, will depend on how accurate your fault diagnosis is.

Cost of the components you want with postage, about a fiver, fitting said components a gamble - value of video card?

Card was bought faulty on Ebay for less than £9 including postage

Zotac GTX 285 :)

Card works, just falls over after anything heavy is sent its way or after 5mins 'ish of usage

Worth the risk I think, especially as the items (inductors) are also on 'Make an offer' aswell

I will replace all 6 of the Inductors even though only two are damaged. Would rather have all new on there instead of mixing them
