As with most PC problems it does not always happen but sometimes pressing the eject on the CD causes the system to shutdown and reboot instantly.
Nothing is being run at the time from the CD.
Don't know where to start to solve this so any ideas are welcome.
Thanks

If the system is behaving the rest of the time, Id be suspicious of the PSU.

The opening of a CD drive is mechanical and thus uses more power than normal.

Is the PSU getting on a bit ? Or have you added new hardware recently ?

Intel or AMD platform?

Device Description SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615
New Dell 9100 PC No hardware changes made. Windows XP Home.
Intel Platform

If no hardware changes AND no major software changes, i'd still suspect the PSU, if anything on a new PC is going to die, it's going to do it in the initial months of usage.

Otherwise, any recent MS Windows updates been done ? Maybe worth uninstalling them and seeig if it's helped.

Otherwise, system restore back to a date when all was ok, if it stops it was software, if it continues, its hardware!
