"EIDE" warning

after downloading some updates from microsoft i got a
warning that stated"dells disk monitoring system-device0
on primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal
specs" tech support told me i needed a new "C"hard drive
does this sound right system is approx 1 year old

That sounds about right...... sorry... i suggest if you
are still able to access that hard drive backup all your
data. before it completly goes out
 
That's Dell's version of a "SMART" error. It usually
means that the hard drive's self-monitoring has flagged
that there's a problem on the hard drive, either too many
bad sectors "growing" or temperature out of spec or some
other hardware issue. I usually take this to mean it's
time to buy a new drive, chain it together with the old
one, and run a "cloning" program like Symantec's "Ghost"
to replace the drive.
 
I have gotten the same error. I replaced the Hard drive and now, I still have the same error. Now, I place the old hard drive and the new one in another computer and I do not get the error. This means the error is computer specific. I have replaced the cable. I still have the error.


So, What does this mean?
