Recently, I had to reformat my computer, I made a backup
of data I had on Drive C. I also backed up my Public and
private keys to a floppy, because I knew since I had
encrypted files I'd want to be able to reopen these in the
new installation I performed. I've imported these keys
into Root and trusted Stores and set a policy to make me
the recovery agent. So why - even with the proper
credentials, am I still getting Access Denied messages? Is
there something I'm overlooking or am doing wrong??
Please explain. TIA.

Hi,

you imported your keys in wrong store. You have to import your keys into
_your_ personal store and you don't have to make yourself a recovery
agent...

Hi

Also note that in addition to what Mike mentioned, you might
need to take ownership of the files as well:

I just had a call on this with Microsoft. Copy your user
profile from your old machine to your new one. I renamed
my local profile to user.old and copied the origional one
over and was able to access the files.
