Efficient Way to Clean-up and Reorganize a Database

Hi,
I recently worked on a database that contains many tables and queries.
Since it was a very time-intensive project, I didn't take the time to
properly organize the database, resulting in many unused tables and queries.
Now I'm going back to clean-up and organize to prepare for future usage. I'm
using MS Access 2000. I was able to delete the unused tables and queries,
making the size more manageable now. I'd like to change the naming
convention of the existing tables used by the data tables that are referenced
by many queries, my database crashed if I tried to run a query after renaming
one of the data tables. I read about the bug associated with this feature.
So, I am asking experts out here if there are other ways for me to organize
this database, other than starting all over and importing the tables one by
one and re-creating the queries. Most of my queries are pretty complicated
and reference many tables. Thanks so much!
