I'm new to movie maker period. Looking for a manual to
read...difficult to find now. BUT, what I want to do is
make the movie video smaller so that I can fit it on to
700mb cd. Its currently 734mb...

I have editing using 1 clip but that didn't work, is there
an easy way to do this?

Hi there,

The file that you want to save, what format is it in.

If it is a DV-AVI file then using Movie Maker 2 you can save it in WMV
(windows Video format) and it will be substantially smaller in size. If it
is already in WMV format, then if you remain with Movie Maker 2 the only
way of making it smaller is to reduce the physical size of the
frames...720x576 down to maybe 320x240. Using other 3rd party tools (DivX
for example) you can stick with the AVI format and significantly reduce the
size of the video whilst maintaining the frame size.

Hi Again,

I should also have said, If you have some DVD authoring software, that will
convert your file into the MPEG format.....and also reduce the physical
file size.

the movie files are divx I believe. I took that file and
dragged it in to start a project. Then I edited the clips
and narrawoed it back to one. Then I said record. That
created a music file which I don't want. I hope this makes
sense.

Basically I don't know what I'm doing and that's why I
just tried that...I'm looking for some kind of manual
help. I think I still have the first movie maker that came
with winxp. I was thinking you can just cut parts of the
movie out and that would reduce the size. Then you record
it how? no other option but wmv? will that play in media
player?

thanks for listening

The help info that comes with Movie Maker is pretty good. If you get into
using the newer version 2, see www.papajohn.org - which has pointers to
books, online tutorials, and other info.

Hi there,

Have you clicked on the Help system at all, or pressed the F1 key. You will
find the manual there.

If you have a printer and want a hard copy, then all you need do is click
on the section in the left hand pane to select it and then print it.

About the file that you already have. Where did it come from? is it
something you downloaded from the Internet? If you right click it and
select PLAY, does it play? and if it does, is it a Video or an Audio file?

To save a file to disk such that it will fit onto a disk you use the SAVE
MOVIE FILE option and when you reach the third dialogue screen you select
the option "Best Fit To File Size" option to specify the eventual size of
the file. However, MM2 achieves what you want by making the frame size
smaller. If you want to keep the frame size, you should consider obtaining
the proper DivX software. You should check this first, I understand that
the official DivX software can sacrifice some of the quality in order to
maintain the frame size.

I think you need to have a good read of the help files that come with Movie
Maker and possibly read up on DivX as well.

You would also benefit from obtaining Movie Maker 2 from the Microsoft web
site if you are still running Movie Maker 1

Hi again,

A correction to my last...MM2 will also reduce the bit rate to achieve
saving a file to a smaller size. When using this option you should
carefully watch the values that result from you changing the size...it may
be that the resulting file will be of poor quality.

Forget that last one...I'm just learning to use this too.
Just realised you had a post before...

sorry and thanks

Hi there,

Oh, you are learning this as well.............well just hold on there a mo
while I catch up !!
