editing text boxes while viewing show

I know this question has been asked before, but I have no
idea how to find it now.

I have a template for a show. When the show is run, the
user can type into certain text boxes on the screen. How
did the creator set up this feature? I need to be able
to replicate it.

I am running the show on PPT 2000, but I think it is
designed to work on 97 and up.

Thanks for any suggestions!

More than likely these are either text boxes from the Control Toolbox or
possibly userforms. Regardless, they require some sort of knowledge of VBA
(Visual Basic for Applications).

The following link will help get you started:

What exactly is it you are trying to do? We might be able to provide some
specific example(s).

Thanks, Bill. Unfortunately, I don't know VBA. I was
able to find the Control Toolbox Text Box option, but I
can't seem to edit it. It is just a white box.

I am using a PowerPoint game that allows the user to keep
score by typing into boxes (on the game board) while the
game is running. I can also type in to them in editing
mode. I would like to know how the original creator set
up these text boxes. This text box from the Control
Toolbox gets me halfway there, but on the show it can be
edited in either view mode or edit mode. With this
Control Toolbox Text Box, I have to select Edit TextBox
Object in order to edit it in edit mode.

Sorry, it's difficult to explain. Thanks for telling me
about the Control Toolbox. I don't think it's how this
other person created his boxes, but we can still use it.

I truly appreciate your help and your quick reply!

For what it is worth, I already have several game samples that automatically
keep score. Which version of PowerPoint are you running? What game are you
trying to recreate? I already have a Jeopardy game sample that I could send
you.

Thanks, Bill, but we have some games that we are working
with already. I do appreciate your help. I found some
pretty cool features that I didn't know how to do before,
such as inserting scrolling text boxes. This feature
could be very useful to our customers.

Thanks again. This site always has great insight and
advice.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

It sounds that, although there are workarounds, you would like this to be a
lot easier to do in PowerPoint(?)

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how to
make this easier to do in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
