editing shortcuts

I sometimes edit the target filepath in shortcuts to games so that I can
access development aids. (consoles, etc). This works fine for me, but a M8
has just got new PC and when he tries to do the same the 'Target' field is
greyed out. Also the 'Find Target' and 'Change Icon' and 'Apply' buttons.

Anybody know why this is so.

His shortcuts work OK btw.

Out of interest I just tried this with my MS Word shortcut.
Same thing. However, when I click on "Advanced", there are different
options.
My MS Word has "Run in separate memory space".
There is also an option for "Run with different credentials"
Worth looking at.

you can't edit the shortcuts that "Office" puts there ...but you can make a
new shortcut and edit that ...

Thanks, useful to know but I don't want to.
Tried a different shortcut (to Irfanview) and that has the missing options
but in "Advanced", still has "Run in separate memory" selected.
Thought it may have helped OP's problem.
Obviously not!

thanx guys

It may be that shortcuts that you create yourself pointing to .exe file of a
program are editable but those created by the prog on installation are not.
(???) Go figure
