I'm a newbie (so bare with me)....

I have 2 individual AVIs. The movie I want to create will have some of the
1st, some of the 2nd, some of the 1st, etc. (i.e. mixed in with each other).

I guess my question would be: What is the easiest way of getting the
'piece' I want out of the AVI into the timeline? In my playing over the
weekend it seemed like I had to adjust the handles on the clip when it was
on the time line then delete it out. It seemed very cumbersome and was a
pain to use when the piece I wanted was in the center. Am I doing it the
hardway?

Jeff,

Maybe you should cut your clips in the collection before bringing them down
into the project.

Try right-clicking your clips in the collection contents pane - choose
'Create Clips'. If that doesn't do what you want automatically, then do some
manual cutting - creating smaller clips from the larger.

Once all clipped up, drag those you want into the project.

Thanks for the response Papa. I hadn't seen that option. I will interested
in seeing what it can do. Is there a way to manually cut the clips within
MovieMaker?

Jeff

Yes, you manually cut them by going to where you want the cut to be - in the
monitor - and using the clip icon under the monitor

To edit clips:

1. In the Timeline view, click on the clip you'd like to
trim.

2. In the Preview window, drag the scroll bar slowly and
watch as the video progresses. Stop at the point where you
want to trim the clip.

3. On the Clip menu, click Set Start Trim Point.

4. Now continue to drag the progress indicator until you
reach the desired end point of your clip.

5. On the Clip menu, click Set End Trim Point.

You will now have your trimmed clip.
