I have created a pps in my office, and now have to edit it
on a machine other that than the one it was created. How
do you edit a powerpoint show??

You have to open it in PowerPoint, so if the other machine doesn't have
PowerPoint installed you're in trouble. Otherwise, open PowerPoint and then go
to File > Open, locate your file and click on open.

If you just want to change the extension from .pps to ppt
can that be done without opening it in powerpoint?

When I do this it enables me to do this, but when I
attempt to email it as an attachment, it shows as
filename.pps.ppt

Do this and leave it this way forever so that you always see the full filename
and extension:

1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Go to Tools > Folder Options
3. Click on the View tab
4. *Uncheck* "Hide extensions for known file types"
