With a recent change to Powerpoint 2002, I can no longer
use a photo editor to edit photos on slides. Here's the
scenario.

I find a web page with a photo of a person. I can
copy/paste into Paint Shop Pro, and that works fine. I can
copy/paste into Powerpoint, and that works fine. However,
if I copy/paste into Powerpoint, and then later try to
copy the photo on the powerpoint slide, the resulting
photo looks crummy in Paint Shop Pro.

If I save the Powerpoint photo to file, and then open the
file with Paint Shop Pro, that works fine.

How can I copy/paste photos directly from Powerpoint into
a photo editor and have them look ok?

John

I would not copy and paste any photo/image in or out of PowerPoint. I would take the image into PSP (in your case) do any editing you want to do, save the file, and then us the insert image from file. This way the image you insert into PowerPoint will retain the resolution you have set in PSP, and not what your pasting, which is usually lower than that of the original image.

John,

If you install MS Photo Editor, then you can copy and paste an image from
powerpoint to microsoft photo editor with no loss of quality.

Michael, that is certainly ideal, but too often, I am
given a PPT file, and some of the graphics need cleanup. I
don't have a choice but to copy from PPT.

Any idea what happened to the graphics format between the
last version of PPT and the latest to screw up taking
graphics out of PPT?

Perhaps this is just a way to promote MS Photo Editor
which can navigate around this problem?

Thanks.
John

I see what your saying. If I have to take an image out of PowerPoint I put it into Photo Editor, save it as whatever, and then take it into a different graphics program for editing. Photo Editor seems to be able to retain the original graphic resolution. As to what Microsoft does between one version and the next regarding anything let alone graphics, is a mystery to me.
