Editing of .mpg or .mpeg files

I seem to be having an issue in WMM with editing .mpg/.mpeg files. It allows
me to add them as the file to edit. Only once it's there I get no sound or
picture to edit. Are these files not really able to be edited? I'd be much
happier if I could just edit them then just save the project as the windows
media. Any help is appricated.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks John both were helpful to a degree. However none with information I
really was hoping for. With what I'm doing it would just be prefered to be
able to actually edit the .mpg/.mpeg files. That however seems impossable. I
have converted them before asking to .wma's I was just hoping to be able to
avoid that since it's just more time consuming over all. Since the original
files are .mpg/.mpeg just editing those would save mucho time. Thanks for
your reply. I do very much appricate it. If you might offer some help though
on how I might actually now be able to just edit the .mpg/.mpeg? That too
would be even more appricated. Though it's fine if that is entirely
impossable.

Maybe different software would be your answer?
Nero, Roxio, ULead, WinDVD Creator, ProShow
Gold, etc...etc....
