When I use Lotus 123, I can edit a number in a cell by
hitting F2 and then "+" and the number for a new number.
When I do this in Excel it interupts the addition of the
two numbers as a label. To get it to interupt it as a
number I have to go back and add "=" at the begining of
the original number. Is there an option in Excel that
would allow me to use the 123 edit proceedures. I loose a
lot of time having to enter the "=".

Tools > Options to display the Options dialog, select Transition tab in that
dialog, check 'Transition formula entry' and click OK. Be warned, however, that
you get 123 Release 2 cell entry functionality, which means that entering

1+2+3

produces the formula =1+2+3, but entering the formula

1/20/2004

produces the formula =1/20/2004 which evaluates to 0.000499002, meaning date
entry become the royal PITA that it was back in 123R2.

Tools>Options>Transition. Place a checkmark in "Transition Formula Entry".
