I would like to delete the first 40 seconds and last 30 seconds of a sound
track/file, how can I do this please? I have read about it somewhere but I
cannot find the article again. Many thanks.

If it is an audio file (wav, mp3, ...): open the file in an audio editor
(but not Windows Sound Recorder), and do the cutting or cropping. Similar to
word processing.
You may have received such software with your sound card, or as part of a
burning suite. Otherwise, try Audacity, freeware,
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.

If it is a MIDI file (mid, kar): open the file in a MIDI editor, and do the
cutting or cropping. Make sure to select across all tracks. This may be
somewhat complicated if the software works with patterns (building blocks).
No advice here.
