Editing MPEG4 Movies with Movie Maker 2.1

I am trying to edit .avi movies creating on my Pentax digital camera (MPEG4
format) and every time I try to add a movie to the timeline movie maker
crashes. I also have .avi movies created with my older pentax digital camera
(MPEG3 format) and these version will edit with no problem in movie maker. Is
this a limitation to the movie maker software, or am I doing something wrong?
 
Convert them using
Mp4Cam2Avi (http://mp4cam2avi.sourceforge.net/)
