I am new to recording and have a question. I recorded a video that is just a
stationary shot of someone talking for a few minutes. One of the lights I
was using is visible in the shot after I capture it to the computer (it was
not visible on the viewing screen of the video camera). Is there any way to
"crop" a clip? Or is there any type of effect you can use to eliminate the
lights?

Thanks you for any help you can provide.

Thanks you so much for this information. I have one more question. I
downloaded virtual dub and figured out how to crop the picture following the
instructions in the newsletter but the sound is messed up in the new clip
that it creates. Any ideas?

The newsletter said something about loading the "Panasonic DV codec" I
wasn't sure what that was. Does this have something to do with my sound
problem?

Thanks again.

Hi Toni,

The Setup Movie Maker > Other Software page of my website has a link to get
the free Panasonic DV codec... if you download and install it, you'll have
another compression option when using VirtualDub...

The sound being messed up in the new clip depends on the audio codecs used
in the source file, and your selected audio compression option in
VirtualDub... sometimes it's easiest to just use VirtualDub to do the video
clip, and put the audio and video back together in Movie Maker...

Thanks for the quick reply. I saved the cropped video as an avi file with no
sound in VirtualDub. How do I separate the original video file from the
sound file in movie maker so that I can combine the sound file with the new
cropped video file? I tried just moving the original video file to the
audio/music line and putting the cropped video with no sound on the video
line but the sound is messed up then.

Thanks so much for both of your help. You guys have been a lifesaver today!

it is a .avi file. I captured it from my video camera to movie maker as an
avi file. It's only 3 minutes long.

I should have known that! I was trying to make it too hard : )

Thanks again and have a good weekend.
