The problem is in the Normal.dot template, which you may have altered
unintentionally or which might have been damaged somehow. Reinstalling
doesn't do anything about Normal.dot unless you completely wipe off
the old installation, which doesn't happen by default. There are two
ways to go about fixing it, depending on whether you have customized
it by adding styles, toolbars, macros, etc.
Assuming the template is otherwise undamaged and you simply removed
the Edit menu without knowing it, you can try just putting it back.
Open the Tools > Customize dialog. On the Commands tab, select the
category "Built-in Menus". In the commands list, grab the Edit item
and drag it to the menu bar where it belongs -- you'll see a thick
black insertion point to show you where it will go when you drop it.
The other method is more drastic. With Word closed, use Windows
Explorer to go to the folder
%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates
Rename the file Normal.dot to something else, such as OldNormal.dot.
Then restart Word, which will make a new Normal.dot from the program's
defaults. This new one won't have any customizations. You can use the
Organizer (Tools > Templates & Add-Ins > Organizer) to move most
customizations from the old template to the new one.
