What does it mean when you skim through the slides of your presentation in
the edit hyperlink window looking for the one you want to link the current
slide to, and for some of the slides, no images of the slide appear in that
little image space on the right, AND THEN, when you try to link the current
slide to one of those slides (for which the image does not appear), the
hyperlink does not work?

It means that the slide you want to link to has a comma (or possibly some
other punctuation, but probably a comma) in the slide title. The comma
confuses PowerPoint's hyperlinking. Remove it, and your linking will work.

Usually means you have a comma in the title. Powerpoint stores internal
hyperlinks as three properties (including the title) seperated by commas. The
extra comma throws it!
