I installed an Edge DiskGo! drive on my HP Pavillion 751x using a USB port.
I've tried several USB ports with the same result.
I am running under XP Professional with all upgrades. The new drive works
fine until I reboot my computer. At that point the system freezes at the HP
screen during startup. To correct the problem I must unplug the drive from
the USB port
and re-restart the PC. Then I attach the drive again after the system is
booted. Any suggestions as to how I can install this drive so I do not have
to disconnect it when I reboot my system?

First impression is that a firmware upgrade may be needed for the drive.
Have you checked the Mfrs website?

Next, there is a possibility that the USB drivers on your PC are involved.
Finally, if the drivers are current, some of the registry entries may be
incorrect.

Generally, I start by removing the USB device in safe mode, also checking
and removing any related "ghost" devices. Then reinstalling them in the
manner described by the install instructions.

If this doesn't work properly, I go back to safe mode uninstall the USB
device again. Rebboot, and using safe mode uninstall the USB drivers for the
ports and controller. Your keyboard should not use USB for this to work
properly. A PS2 or serial mouse may be more convenient to use at this point.
Reboot, and allow the detection process (or use a manual install if
appropriate) to reinstall the USB drivers for the controller and ports. )
In a very few cases, specific support chip drivers may need to be loaded
over or in place of the standard windows USB drivers.

Finally, with everthing supposedy back to a known state, it's time to try to
get the offending USB device to behave. This may require a driver install,
and then plugging in the device, or the device may just need to be
connected.

One way to completely screw things up is to force load obsolete drivers for
USB devices. If the drivers and install software were written properly, this
should not happen, or at least make you work to install the obsolete stuff.
