Ebay sucks - good forum for used ATI HW?

I've been trying to pick up a Radeon 8500 or 9200 card for my
DVD/emulator PC (PIII mb, so requires an AGP2x card).
I've bid a few times on eBay, but the amazing thing is the idiots who
bid more for a used card than you can get one new!
I just lost an 8500 that went for $65+>$10 shipping, when you can get a
new OEM 8500 from NewEgg for $41!
I'd love to snag an X800 sometime soon, but I doubt I'll find any deals
on eBay.
Any good web forums or newsgroups for used PC hardware?

TIA!

If you're in or near a major city, Craig's List (http://www.craigslist.org)
is a great option.. Local sellers, no auction hassles.

BTW if dvd playback will be your primary use you'll get much
better image quality with a Matrox G400 Max or G400. Both
are AGP2X compatible and sell for next to nothing these days.

I've always found the local usenet .forsale groups useful. I picked up a 3
month old full retail ATI 9800 Pro 128Mb there for $225Cdn (this was over a
year ago when they were retailing a lot higher than they are now) I sold my
8500 128Mb for $60 just after that on the group too. Don't get a 9200...only
1 TMU per pipe and still a DX8.1 card. The 8500 has 2 TMU per pipe and is a
far better card.

That sounds like eBay alright...people get "auction fever" and often want to
win an auction regardless of the cost just for the sake of winning it.

Example: I remember one time when I bid on a coin...the winning bid ended
up being around $15, but if you looked at the seller's other items, you
would soon find he also had a "buy it now" option where you could get the
coin without going through the auction BS and you could buy it for $3.50 !
I had to laugh at the lengths this guy went through to outbid other people.
The bid history showed at least a dozen bids! Oh well, his loss!

Uh, you convinced me. I am going to order a bunch of 8500s' from Newegg and
make a good profit;) It doesn't suck for making $$.

Take your time and learn to snipe.

Cool - thanks! Great link!

I'll have to check, but wasn't the G400 pretty abysmal as a DirectX
card? I'm trying to go from SNES/MAME emulation up to N64/PSX type
games as well.

Absolutely. Anything over DX6 and forget Matrox.

LOL, it could well be a worthwhile venture, especially when you can
advertise 'em as new!

Why are you wasting your time for $41? Go buy a new one from NewEgg...

It wasn't so much for the 8500, as for a place to start watching for an
X800XL or XT for sale.

Plus I was hoping someone would offer thier old 8500 card for cheap ;).
