Registry Cleaner:
EasyCleaner 2.0 BETA 2 (2.0.5.309)

http://www.toniarts.com/betas.htm

This release is so close to the final release, all it is missing is
scheduling and multilingual features. I recommend using this BETA more than
the 1.7f release, this should be more stable and bug free even in this BETA
stage. Almost every part of it was heavily modified, to provide you with one
of the safest and efficient cleaner available today, and what is the best;
it's 100% FREE! Oh yes, and now in XP style!

Boomer, you might have a comment on this:

Does anyone have any first-hand experience using this beta with XP?
Specifically, has the bug where EasyCleaner farkles the XP help system
been resolved.

ISTR that there was a warning with earlier versions (i.e. V.1.7f) that
stated that you needed to specify "help" in the ignore list when running
it on XP. It was in the FAQ, I think.

Anyway, the site says:

1.7 <---> 1.7f, fixes those bugs in the 1.7 also little enchantments
added. This version is fully tested on the following operating systems:
Windows NT 4.00 SP3, Windows 95 and 98.

Note that there was no testing done on XP for these versions. Also, on
the betas.html page:

Known bugs

* Recycer bin physical location has changed to :\RECYCLER from
:\RECYCLED on some newer Windowses (silly me), so in (at least)
Windows 2000/XP duplicate and unnecessary file finder go searching
your recycler bin also. Has been since EasyCleaner 1.4. Way to go!
--> resolved in future release!

* Unnecessary file finder may list some files twice if with normal,
extra or custom directories setting some of the other settings were
selected. If the other settings had short path name (e.g.
c:\PROGRA~1\....) like the "temp directories" usually had. -->
resolved in future release! * With large fonts (and low
resolutions) the forms are somewhat corrupted. --> pending...

Unknown bugs (not verified or just abnormal)

* I got one report of EasyCleaner crashing at the startup of the
space usage utility. Weird one... --> pending...

* One report of in Windows 2003 server EasyCleaner breaks MS Office.
Hmm... --> pending...

</quote>

Silly him (indeed). }:O\

The author doesn't explicitly say that thorough testing is being done on
newer Windoze platforms (i.e. 2k/XP etc.) and in conjunction with newer
software installed. He does make a big deal about it having an XP style
now, but this alone doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies that his
testing is reliable where XP is concerned.

Buyer beware, I guess. My 2 cents...

Yes, that issue was fixed in beta 1.

Thank you. All I could find was this:

FAQ

Q1. Is EasyCleaner compatible with Windows versions....?

A1. EasyCleaner does NOT cause any problems on following operating
systems: Windows 95/98/2000/NT 4 (or newer). There is a known problem in
Windows ME & XP, that is when the registry scan is ran and all the items
are deleted, Windows help system doesn't work anymore. The workaround to
this problem is just to ADD the word help to the skip-list. Even if you
DO delete some important info, there is certainly NO NEED TO RE-install
Windows. BECAUSE EasyCleaner always creates backups (with default
options) which can be restored easily. I also offer a fix file with
these 4 entries listed ready to be imported back to the registry, see
the download center. See help for more information!

Is there a detailed changelog (read: version specific) on the site or
did I miss it?

The above excerpt from the FAQ is for version EasyCleaner 1.7 and was posted
about a year after 1.7 was released. I can't find a version specific
changelog but I can reiterate that the "Help" issue has been resolved in
version 2.

Version 2 of EasyCleaner has been slow to develop but Beta 2 looks quite
impressive.

I appreciate the feedback. Cheers, Jordan. }:O)

Seems to be so that we Finns are specialized in registry software,
Jouni's Regcleaner is also Finnish as this is.
