Easy question on searches

Hello Everyone,
I have a few questions on just searching the active directory mainly from a
winxp machine.

When I search the active directory I see the following categories, Name,
Machine Role, Owner and Description. These fields populate great.

On the 2000 domain controller I can also get the OS and the OS version.
However, I added the categories to my xp machine, however, they do not
display the OS and the OS version. Is there some way I can correct this?

The last question is I noticed on the 2000 Domain Server there is also a tab
for Location under computer. I can type in this spot the location, but the
browse is grayed out. Is this normal? In addition, is there anyway to get
this field to display when I choose to add columns on an xp or 2000 search? I
do not even see this as an option.

If anyone can help me with these questions, I would really appreciate the
help.
Thanks
Dan

I have never seen these fields populated.

On Windows XP, make sure that the latest Adminpak, msi file is installed.
See tip 9327 » The Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Administration Tools Pack.
in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsifaq.com

Then use the DSQUERY function, tip 7992 » How do I know what attribute names to use when performing a 'DSQUERY *'?
AND links.

Use this tool to generate the query of your choice, like:

dsquery * domainroot -filter "(&(objectCategory=Computer)(objectClass=Computer))" -attr cn distinguishedName whenCreated operatingSystem operatingSystemVersion operatingSystemServicePack description location -Limit 0
