Win XP SR2
4 errors I think I may be able to resolve if I could find the correct
procedures. After a lot of searching, however, I have failed. GUidance
please.
1 -- Services - When I select Dependencies for any service I get
"Interface: Class not registered." I have found how to register classes,
Where can I find the 'class' I need to register?
2 -- Windows update - When I get to the update page I can select either
Express or Custom. Regardless the one I choose, I am sent to a page
'Files required to use Windows Updates are no longer registered . . .'
I choose 'register' and am sent to a screen where (it appears) the files
are downloaded. Then it is back to the Express or Custom page, then
back to 'Files required . . .' - endlessly. How do I update XP?
3 -- Event ID 7026 'The following boot-start or system-start driver
failed to load.' Where can I find 'boot-start' or 'system-start' to
ensure the path to the driver is correct? Doesn't appear to be MSConfig
or the StartUp folder.
4 -- Event ID 7000 - 'WebCLient service failed to start due to . . .
account specified for this service is different from the account
specified for other services.' Where can I find the account used by
WebClient (is it 'Local System' under Properties>LogOn?)and how can I
find the account used by 'other services?' I suppose I change accounts
thru 'Log On? How do I find the password (if needed)?
For some of these I can find MS articles written way over my head - for
others, I can find details on errors but not general guidance (e.g.,
where is 'boot-start) - for others, I find next to nothing.
If preferable, please direct me to easy-to-understand instructions.

When posting about Error Reports please post complete reports!

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.

1 -- Services - When I select Dependencies for any service I get

WMI - already in Auto - already started. Now what?
BTW, the WebClient error -
On trying to start it I get a popup 'WebCLient service failed to start
due to . . . account specified for this service is different from the
account specified for other services.' Other times I get
The WebClient service terminated with the following error:
The specified module could not be found.

Are these problems related to this thread?
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...2bc0b?lnk=st&q=&rnum=1&hl=en#c13a99b5c9a2bc0b

Why do you think that you need the WebClient service running in the first
place?

WebClient service
http://smallvoid.com/tweak/winnt/service/wxyz.html#WEBCLIENT
The WebClient service terminated with the following error:
The specified module could not be found.

%SystemRoot%\System32\davclnt.dll = Web DAV Client DLL

If you do not use or need the WebClient service, disable it.

Disabling the WebClient service might speed up network browsing, but it will
prevent access to web-resident network places, such as free disk storage
from your ISP.

Disabling the WebClient service will make WebClient/Publisher Temporary
Files disappear completely from Disk Cleanup.

Disabling the WebClient service will also make the folder and index.dat file
disappear.

<quote>
If the "WebClient" service is disabled the "WebClient/Publisher Temporary
Files" disappears in the Disk Cleanup tool. It would appear that disabling
this service is probably beneficial for security reasons and can easily be
enabled if it should affect the running of any Windows XP application. (To
disable this service go to Start/Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Services - under the General Tab, look under Service status and click
Stop. Above this where it says Startup type, click on the drop down menu and
select 'disabled' hit apply to save your changes. You may have to restart
your computer for the changes to take effect on Disk Cleanup.)

WebClient service description...
Enables Windows-based programs (Like the Web Publishing Wizard) to create,
access, and modify Internet-based files on Internet file servers using the
WebDAV protocol. The WebDAV protocol is a file access protocol described in
eXtendible Markup Language (XML) that travels over the Hypertext Transfer
Protocol (HTTP).

<quote>
Here's the skinny on the WebClient Service on Windows XP:
1. Real World Description: the WebClient service provides WebDAV (Web
Distributed Authoring and Versioning) integration in the Explorer shell. It
makes it possible to use "web folders" and to browse the file systems of web
servers (not unlike FTP, but better -- adds secure password authentication
and file locking) within an Explorer window. WebDAV is an extension of the
HTTP/1.1 protocol.
2. It is not needed.
3. You can also use Internet Explorer 5 and above for this functionality
(File > Open > enter URL and check the "Open as Web Folder" checkbox), as
well as a host of other downloadable tools that implement WebDAV.

{E3BF1126-BA29-4850-AF33-5BDB654F4774} is the WebClient and WebPublisher
Cache.

I have the WebClient service Disabled.

Have no idea why I have it. Just included it in the list of problems
because it produces an error and I thought it may be associated with the
others.is this referring to email storage? storage for a fee? If neither,
then I don't need it and will disable it.

Things like using the Web Publishing Wizard to publish (upload) files to
your website. I doubt that you need it either.
