Anyone out there using Earthlink and Vista that can successfully send email?
I can receive but not send, regardless of wether I use Elink's Mailbox or
Window's Mail. This is a new PC that came with Vista installed, when I
downloaded Earthlink I used the download for Vista. I have already tried all
the things in various "help" sites and none have helped. When I try to send
mail I get the following error message....

The message could not be sent. The authentication might not be correct for
your outgoing mail (SMTP) server.

The rejected email address was (whoever I used). Acct:'pop.mindspring.com',
Server:smtpauth.earthlink.net', Protocol:SMTP, Server Response:'550 Please
configure you mail client to use authentication', Port:25, Secure(SSL):No.

Has anyone been able to solve this problem between Vista and Earthlink?

Incoming Mail (POP3): pop.earthlink.net
Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtpauth.earthlink.net

You'll then need to:

Select My Server Requires Authentication and go into Settings, from there:

Select only Logon Using and complete your login information

Sending this from Mail now.

A friend had this problem and called his ISP. He was told to change the
Server Port Number of the Outgoing Mail. That fixed the problem. I use
Earthlink also and mine is 25. You might check that.

Steve

how do you change that on the computer

I put in the proper ports and protocols per Earthlink, and my Windows Mail
worked for a day. Now, it won't send (I rechecked settings.)
I don't like Windows Mail and would prefer to use Earthlink MailBox. I went
through the steps to change the default email program, but when I go to
Earthlink TaskBar and ask it to check email, Windows Mail opens.
Any ideas?

Make sure your anti-virus is not set to scan email.
